Tomato Salad

Tonight for dinner I went to the farmer's market and found a great looking heirloom tomato. I decided I wanted it for dinner with a cute little avacado, some lemon juice, sweet onion, salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious and filling, but next time I need to figure out something different to do with the onion. I love onion, but I need to mellow it. Perhaps green onions or shallots would be better.

Time to crack down

Well, it is that time. I have to get serious about losing weight again. I've gained back half the weight I lost a few years ago and my confidence has been reduced. This has been due to a number of factors that I might go into at some point. Needless to say I need to return to my plan:

1) Portion control: eat less food and stop eating when I'm full.
2) Drink less: while out with friends don't drink as much beer.
3) No late night meals: it doesn't matter, no late night snacking!!!
4) Eat breakfast: at least a bowl of oatmeal every day.
5) More fruits and vegetables: eat a balanced diet.
6) Cook more often: cooking at home is healthier.
7) More cardio: while weights are good, I need to increase my cardio capacity.. it makes me feel better.
8) Don't deny myself anything, but make smart choices.
9) Post my progress here (and be honest about it)

(hmm... three more for a twelve step program)

It starts today. This morning I ate oatmeal for breakfast and had a reasonable sized french dip for dinner along with a salad. Tonight I will go to the farmer's market and then figure out something small for dinner. Last night I went for a swim and perhaps tonight I will go for a short run.

Two pints of Ice Cream

Last night I ate two pints of Breyer's ice cream, one chocolate, one mint chocolate chip. I knew it was bad when I bought them at the grocery store, but I told myself I would eat only half of one. Sadly that didn't happen (but not unexpectedly).

I just saw someone else's food eating blog, http://alliate.blogspot.com/, and I've decided to attempt to do it myself, starting today. Hopefully it will keep my a little more honest, and if I keep it up for a while, hopefully I can get my mom to do it as well. I'll also include my morning weight and exercise for the day.

I lost a lot of weight last year, and hopefully this will keep me semi-honest this year. I kinda of wish I started this last year so I could compare how I do this summer to my good results from last summer. I lost about 60 lbs last year, and am down from 345 since July 2004. I don't expect to duplicate those results, but if I could get to 245 by the end of the year, I'd be really happy.
